We met strangers, and became sisters

Nisreen Elsaim from the Sudan Youth Organization on Climate Change in Khartoum, Sudan shares her thoughts on her Tandem journey. Nisreen was working in Tandem with Caroline Badr from Saray El-Fan in El Minya, Egypt. They worked on the project "The Environment and the People of Nile Valley".

One of the most exciting things about Tandem is the feeling of UNKNOWN, uncertain and unexpected. Our Tandem round was even more mysterious than a regular unknown situation, because of the COVID19 and the online format.

Tow of us, Caroline and Nisreen are different in almost everything, the only common is we both love food. We were different in color, religion, professional background, and general interests in life. It’s a human miracle that we became very close.

Humans are so adaptable – and our Tandem is the best proof of that. Together we took every possible way of transportation, unfortunately not yet donkeys. Caroline kept telling Egyptian fairy tales, Nisreen overwhelmed everyone with the topic of Climate change. Luckily Caroline is more environmental advocate now than ever.

Our Tandem project idea was to make a short video – and eventually, we ended up having a big family and extend community. Exactly this made our point even more valid. It’s doesn’t matter how far people live, if they have the same environment, they will have the same habits. And the world is a big family, spread apart.
