Application Timeline

The deadline for applications has been extended to Monday 02 October 2017 (23:59 CET).
Successful candidates will be informed by mid-October 2017.
The Partner Forum will take place on 20-24 November 2017 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands.

If you work in the field of arts and culture and want to tackle community challenges in your region; if you want to engage internationally to grow your work, in collaboration with peers who face similar issues in their home regions, we encourage you to apply for Tandem Fryslân.

What is Tandem?

Tandem is a cultural collaboration programme that strengthens communities and civil society in Europe. Tandem believes that the burning cultural and social questions of our times can be addressed much more creatively and effectively through inspiring learning experiences that are provided when collaborating with new organisations and across other realities and localities. Our vision is to see strong networks of creative communities and cultural change-makers emerge from this programme and to support the impact they make on their communities and regions.

Tandem is een cultureel uitwisselingsprogramma ter versterking van gemeenschappen en samenleving in Europa. Tandem gelooft dat de brandende culturele en sociale vraagstukken van onze tijd effectiever en creatiever kunnen worden aangepakt. Dit doen wij door inspirerende leerervaringen in de vorm van nieuwe samenwerkingsverbanden vanuit een andere plek en realiteit. Het is ons doel om sterke netwerken van creatieve gemeenschappen en culturele changemakers te zien ontstaan vanuit ons programma, en de impact die deze initiatieven op hun regio maken te ondersteunen.

Tandem is in kultureel gearwurkingsprogramma om mienskippen yn Europa te fersterkjen. Tandem leaut der yn dat de kulturele en sosjale fraachstikken dy’t by ús tiid hearre effektiver en kreativer oanpakt wurde kinne. Bygelyks mei ynspirearjende ûnderfiningen yn de foarm fan nije gearwurkingen fan in oar plak ôf en fan in oare realiteit út. Wy hoopje dat der sterke netwurken en kreative mienskippen mei kulturele ‘feroarers’ ûntstean út dit programma wei, en wolle de ynfloed dy’t dizze inisjativen meitsje op harren regio stypje.

How does it work?

Following this call for applications, up to 24 applicants (12 from Fryslân and 12 from other European regions) will be invited to the Tandem Fryslân Partner Forum. Participants will find many networking opportunities and – most importantly – their potential Tandem Partner.

Once the partnerships are formed, each “tandem” will then apply for the full programme with a specific collaboration plan and idea. Seven tandems will be selected.

In addition to becoming part of a broad international network that we call the “Tandem family”, each participant and their tandem will benefit from a placement opportunity in the region where their partner is based. They will also benefit from financial and mentoring support to prototype their idea and establish a mutually beneficial partnership.

Na de aanmeldperiode worden maximaal 24 kandidaten (12 vanuit Fryslân en 12 uit andere regio’s in Europa) uitgenodigd om het Tandem Fryslân Partner Forum bij te wonen waar ze gelegenheid krijgen om te netwerken en – nog belangrijker – hun potentiële Tandem partner te vinden.

Zodra het contact gelegd is schrijft ieder “tandem” een gezamenlijke aanvraag voor het volledige programma, bestaande uit een samenwerkingsplan en projectidee. Uiteindelijk worden 7 tandems geselecteerd.

Iedere deelnemer zal deel uit maken van de ”Tandem family”, profiteert van een meewerkmogelijkheid in de regio waar de Tandem partner gevestigd is, krijgt financiële ondersteuning en begeleiding voor het ontwikkelen van een prototype-idee en om een wederzijds succesvolle samenwerking op te bouwen.

Nei de perioade wêryn’st dy oanmelde kinst wurde op syn heechst 24 kandidaten (12 út Fryslân en 12 út oare regio’s yn Europa) útnûge om by it Tandem Fryslân Partner Forum te wêzen dêr’t se de mooglikheden foar harren netwurk en – noch wichtiger – harren potinsjele Tandem partner fine kinne.

Wannear’t it kontakt lein is skriuwt elk “tandem” in mienskiplike oanfraach foar it folsleine programma, dy’t bestiet út in plan foar de gearwurking en in idee foar it projekt. 7 tandems wurde selektearre.

Elke dielnimmer wurdt opnommen yn de saneamde “Tandem famylje”, kriget de mooglikheid mei te rinnen yn de regio dêr’t de Tandem partner weikomt, kriget finansjele stipe en begelieding foar it ûntwikkeljen fan in prototype-idee om oer-en-wer in suksesfolle gearwurking op te bouwen.

Is Tandem Fryslân for me?

You do not necessarily have to work for an established arts organisation. You could also be working in a collective, NGO, public institution, start-up, association or initiative. The main criteria is that you are part of a team and have roots in your community. Nonetheless, you should be strongly interested in designing new formats of cultural-social work that engages regional communities in re-shaping their current and future realities. You should be motivated to explore unconventional ways of working together with a partner from another region who you don’t know yet. You should be committed to identifying and pursuing new ideas for cultural work that address burning societal issues, both in your regional community and across Europe.

Het is niet noodzakelijk om bij een gevestigde kunstorganisatie te werken. Je kunt ook actief zijn binnen een collectief, NGO, publiek instituut, startup, vereniging of initiatief. Zo lang je maar onderdeel bent van een team en een sterke verbinding hebt met je gemeenschap. Je bent geïnteresseerd in het ontwerpen van nieuwe formats rondom cultureel sociaal werk voor en met een regionale gemeenschap en vormgeven van hun huidige en toekomstige realiteit. Je bent gemotiveerd om op ontdekkingstocht te gaan en via onconventionele wegen tot een samenwerking te komen met een partner uit het buitenland (die je nog niet kent). Je bijt je vast in het identificeren en najagen van nieuwe ideeën voor cultureel werk rondom brandende sociale kwesties, zowel in jouw regionale gemeenschap als elders in Europa.

Bytst dy fêst yn it identifisearjen en neijeien fan nije ideeën foar kultureel wurk rjochte op grutte sosjale kwestjes, likegoed yn dyn regionale mienskip as op in oar plak yn Europa.

ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY:

Civil society organisations, public institutions, non-profit initiatives and social enterprises that are engaged with cultural questions and innovation in their region and are based in one of the 28 EU member states or in Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Iceland, Israel, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Liechtenstein, Macedonia (FYROM), Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Norway, Palestine, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey or Ukraine.

NOTE TO PARTICIPANTS BASED IN THE NETHERLANDS:

You can apply to Tandem Fryslân only if you work in Fryslân and/or with a Frisian community.

Participants based in other Dutch regions are not eligible, unless they are working or plan to work on a cultural/social project including a Frisian community in 2018.
