Open Call for Artists: Ai Stratis Festival Greece Tandem Europe participants Catharina Sligting (Portugal) and Stella Spanou (Greece) invite you to spend time on a remote Greek island, as part of the project Ai Stratis-I Sea Art that they have been developing. OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS Ai Stratis – I Sea Art Festival is a new art, dance, music and community festival which takes place from 20 to 26 August 2018 on the remote island of Agios Efstratios in the Aegean sea, Greece. We are welcoming artists, performers and creatives to participate in this unique first edition of the I Sea Art Festival. Deadline to apply is 20 June 2018. The Project Ai Stratis – I Sea Art Festival is a new art based festival for, by, with the local community of the island Agios Efstratios inviting national and international artists: this the outcome of a new Tandem Europe project, initiated by the Council of Agios Efstratios and the Association DomÃnio Vale do Mondego in Portugal within the Tandem Europe programme that started in November 2017. The Concept of The Programme The festival lasts 7 days and will include the following elements and disciplines: – opening and closing night will be a communal dinner with the community and artists and visitors followed by traditional dance and music. A true festive of local traditions with intermezzos of street performances and music. A Fest to celebrate life on the island! – resident artists working in public spaces and the natural environment, working with natural materials, enhancing locations of significance to the locals, through their stories and histories, transitioning the everyday environment into new experiences, creating extraordinary images that change the regular vision. – workshops and creative activities as a means to create, to connect, to bond. Aimed at young and old, local and outsider. – explorations: walks, hikes, boat trips. Exploring the unique oak forest, the rocky beaches, the mysterious caves, the natural elements of Wind, Water and Rocks. And sheep! Guided by artists and locals. Call for Artists & Creatives We are welcoming artists, performers and creatives to participate in the unique first edition of the I Sea Art Festival on the remote island of Agios Efstratios, Greece. As a resident artist during the festival from 20 – 26 August you will have the opportunity to work on location, either within the only local village or in the rural and natural environment. We are inviting professional artists and creatives in the area of community art, site specific performance, music, dance, land art, outdoor art, interactive performances and workshops. Focus on the particular history of the island, taking into account its disruptive influence on the cohesion of the current community, but most of all opening new visions, positive ways to connect, to develop and to build sense of community in the 21st century. I Sea Art offers: A unique, very small scale festival with a warm and welcoming atmosphere A local community of approx. 200 people and about a few hundred summer visitors Approximately 25 artists supported by a team of local and international volunteers A dedicated professional production and technical team The inspiring location of a beautiful island, away from mass tourism A festival that functions as an art retreat as well as a residence We offer a week long accommodation and great food The possibility of travel expenses I Sea Art asks: Performances in the open air, on unconventional places, unusual stages with basic technical standards.
