2. Let’s Culture Together | Workshop
Date: 27.01 | Time: 12:30 – 13:30
Venue: “Melissa Network”, 18 Feron str, Athens 104 34

Pierluigi Vaccaneo and Cristiana Olteanu will present the results of their project after a year of international cooperation through the workshop: Let’s Culture Together | How to use literature to activate communities online and offline. The workshop includes Interactive Performance and Video Screening.

With this workshop, we want to show how we try to activate communities using literature and new technologies.

We called our project “Let’s Culture together” because we used Twitter and Betwyll (the web-based application based on the TwLetteratura method) dynamics – brevity and sharing – to activate communities of people around a cultural content. How the method works: the community chooses a content, establishes a calendar of reading and rewrites it with tweets or twyll, through personal interpretation. The game works with books, but also with other types of “texts”: paintings, sculptures, films, operas, territories and stories of trade companies.

The workshop offers a new method to understand books and the places books are related to, using the potential of web communication and of social networks in order to activate a community, to develop an audience through gamification, to stimulate self-conscious use of social media and practice grammar and synthesis.

3. Light Path | Exhibition
Date: 27.01 | Time: 12:00 – 17:00

Joris Laccarino and Marta Klepo will present the results of their project after a year of international cooperation through the:

Augmented Reality Exhibition: The Cultural Smart City
The first Augmented Reality street art exhibition

The exhibition in Athens presents augmented reality artworks made by 20 artists and expands the concept of urban art through augmented reality by encouraging the emergence of a new kind of artistic language between the physical and digital worlds.
The works are visible through the application “Bepart” (available on Apple Store and Play Store) in the city of Palermo and in many squares and streets of Athens.

This permanent exhibition explores new touristic routes through the city. It faces a new type of interaction by citizens and brings attention in a new digital language that enhances storytelling and audience engagement.

The Augmented Reality artworks were made by participants (students, artists, and more) during a three-day workshop held at the Modern Art Gallery (GAM) in Palermo. Bepart, in collaboration with PUSH and Mjestimice Svjetlo/In Places, and with the support of Tandem Europe held an innovative workshop to produce a cultural smart city in just three days.

4. Honorary Hotel | Presentation – Workshop – Performance

Ariane Jedlitschka and Inga Gerner Nielsen will present the results of their project after a year of international cooperation through a series of Presentations, Interactive Workshop and Intimate Performance.

15:00-15:30 | Presentation of the Toolkit: The Honorary Hotel
The Honorary Hotel is a toolkit to introduce newcomers to the cultural community in urban and rural areas. As a short introduction, we will present you with the two first tools which we have developed: the Honorary Kitchen and the Honorary Cinema.

Afterward, we welcome you to the Honorary Hotel that temporarily emerges in Athens (Greece), offering two Honorary Sessions running in parallel:

15:30-17:30 | The Honorary Radio
We introduce the concept of Honorary Radio together with media artist Victor Mazón (Spain). We talk about the benefits of a community redistribution through a non-commercial/cultural radio in neighbourhoods and test a prototype and platform. We also share ideas and resources.

15:30-18:30 | The Honorary Performance
We invite you to check into one of the rooms of The Honorary Hotel, to try the prototype to an Honorary Performance. Inspired by the idea of the Hotel and Madeleine Kate McGowan’s work with the project Other Story, Inga asked her long-term artistic partner to join the process of developing performance research on the materiality of memory – which they hope will have newcomers and locals encounter and immerse into each other’s stories. The Augmented Reality artworks were made by participants (students, artists, and more) during a three-day workshop held at the Modern Art Gallery (GAM) in Palermo. Bepart, in collaboration with PUSH and Mjestimice Svjetlo/In Places, and with the support of Tandem Europe held an innovative workshop to produce a cultural smart city in just 3 days.

Performance & Installation: Hotel Transit @Omonia
Knitting a home out of stories on what makes home

Hotel Transit comes back to Omonia to tell the stories of the people it “hosted”. Hotel Transit was in Omonia from April to July 2016 working with different communities: visitors and passers-by, dependent groups of people, migrant families with kids, and local residents. A public activity on 31 July 2016 that included an installation and a performative game on an empty space on Xouthou street and in cooperation with Alternative Tours of Athens and Caritas was the culmination of the activities in Omonia.

In November 2016, Hotel Transit travelled to Sofia and worked on the Women’s Market gathering stories from shop owners with different backgrounds to create the ideal “recipe” for what makes “home”. Then it travelled to Vratsa to participate at the EMPATHEAST and engage with more people.

This time, we are going to “build” a Hotel Transit at a gallery of shops underneath one of the many closed hotels of Omonia called “Acropol” and fill it with the stories from our travels, our workshops, the people we met on the way and those that got engaged with our project. A performance and installation for all the people that carry a “Hotel Transit” inside them.

A collaboration between Ohi Paizoume/ UrbanDig Project (Athens) and Ideas Factory (Sofia)
